About GirlrillaVintage the Blog

PEACE! I’m Gracie Berry, a Black-Afrikan, queer, cis-woman, community root-healer/educator, multi-dimensional creative, womanist and owner of GirlrillaVintage. As a griot, its important to the integrity of my work that I share my life’s experiences and messages in a ways that honors my ancestors and comes from an Afro-diasporic centered view point before any of the margins. Showcasing my art, activism, autochthonous Afrikan-spirit, my story, vintage, words. Community roothealer. Here to love and liberate my people. I founded GirlrillaVintage in 2010, an Afrikan Roots & Empowerment Organization that shares Afrikan cultural diaspora content, events, and perspectives through the offerings of education, expressive arts, spirituality, vintage aesthetic, and workshops. A creative platform that uplifts Black and Brown communities, lineages, narratives, and stories, and uses compassion and creative problem solving to empower and reawaken possibility in and around my community. Black Brothers Sweat Your Childrens Mothers

May 7, 2014

This brother was black and from the hood, tall and dignified. He talked about his two sons with two different women. I told him that he reminded me of someone from the Congolese. He told me that he doesn’t sweat his children’s mothers because that’s what they want. I said, honey if that’s what they want give it to them. People forget when they create babies together there is a bond beyond earth that connects them. I told him to sweat his babies mothers-after all they cultivated those babies and brought them forth. He said the judge ruled against him, but he knew it was because of his black. He was relaxed and okay with the fact. I said, honey their white privilege made them shame you and degrade you, take it back! You are black and you love and so hard-its in our DNA. He said, sis you’re right. I might need to take off my cool and chat with my babies moms, gain my freedom again. I kissed his third eye and walked into the night. I love to love on my black people on purpose.-Gracie

You Are More Than You Think

May 7, 2014

First convo after I performed tonight was with an elder from Cameroon. He was moved to tears by my performance. Invited me over to where he was sitting to drink and talk. He said, “you’re much more than you can think right now. My heart was heavy, and now it is light. Your face paint and words took me home, made me feel better. You’re blessed with something special. Thankful for people like you on the earth. I feel good.” Screaming! I was humbled so much by his encouragement and dedication to the Nigerian girls and to our very difficult conversation. We talked for a while about his PhD in agriculture and his daughters and son’s PhD’s too who would be doctors soon. He was so proud of his family. ❤ black people. -Gracie

Pollinating Honey-Relationship I Gave & Use Myself :)

And she said, “I just feel so stupid. I don’t understand how I could’ve made such a fool of myself. I know he hates me now.” I told her that making a fool of yourself is surely not the plan, and is most certainly apart of the entire experience. I encouraged her to become familiar with her eccentricities and to be gentle with herself. Life won’t always be like this. They will either meet you on the bridge or not. Young love.  Was just thinking after the conversation with young lady that some people will never give of themselves emotionally, no matter how honey sweet you lay it on. Let them to their own pollinating. Let them create their own honey to lay on.-Gracie

Racist and Their Buffoonery-Ann Coulter Attempts to Makes Fun of #Bringbackourgirls

“I was just thinking about how much a travesty and insult to injury it would be if this campaign to defend and draw awareness fell by the wayside and got in the hands of insensitive racist like this thing here. To be black is not a fucking joke. We are valuable beyond measure. Reunite those beautiful girls with their loved ones.”-Gracie
